H1N1 SwineBy Rady Ananda

From the Rose Garden yesterday, President Barack Obama promised that the swine flu vaccine “will be completely voluntary.” He spoke for four minutes and took no questions. Top policymakers from the various alphabet agencies whose bailiwick includes the WHO flu (H1N1) flanked him.

He opened today’s briefing by advising the manufacturing sector is doing better, thus proving there is some economic recovery. He also promised to keep working so that “those Americans who are looking for jobs can find them.” Video here.

He advised everyone to be calm about the swine flu but cautioned us to be smart about it, too. “Cover your sneezes with your sleeve, not your hands.” My dad and I grinned at each other with the same idea: Did POTUS really just say that?

Perhaps he meant that federal resources would not be used to force the vaccine on people. No, that can’t be it. On July 10th, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced her agency would disburse $350 million in grant funding to help prevent and combat a possible outbreak. States are mandating the vaccine. The federal government is funding it.

Massachusetts received $10.4 million in federal funds for its vaccination program and mass marketing campaign. Healthcare workers, as of August 15th, can decline the jab. Yet, Mass. has “deputized” dentists, paramedics and pharmacists to assist in a statewide vaccination project.

In New York, however, healthcare workers must get jabbed or get fired, insists the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council. The 37,000-member New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) staunchly opposes a mandatory policy:

“By itself, vaccination of healthcare personnel will not stop the spread of influenza. Even if the vaccine is effective, recipients can still contract and harbor the virus, and then transmit influenza to other individuals….

“Influenza vaccinations are only effective if the proper strain is identified. In the case of H1N1, no vaccine has yet been approved. A minimum of two injections will be needed for the H1N1 influenza, along with the seasonal influenza vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine has not been approved and there are mutations already identified with H1N1 influenza.”

NYSNA also reminds us that, “Making vaccine is a long, multi-step process requiring several months to complete; the safety of the H1N1 vaccine may not be known for some time.” Certainly not in the next three months.

Asserting personal freedom in refusing injections, NYSNA accuses the State of not considering the impact of increasing the shortage of nurses that a mandatory jab policy will cause. Sebelius must know. On August 7th, she advised schools to budget for more nurses. That will drain from a pre-existing shortage, especially if NY tries to force vax-free nurses off the job.

One-third to one-half of the United Kingdom’s doctors and nurses already refuse vaccination, according to the Guardian UK.

We have many reports now that the novel H1N1 swine flu is mild, lasting perhaps a week and requiring no hospitalization (unless the patient is already compromised by other ailments). Obama’s tone today was of quiet assurance, as if the flu is not a big deal. No forced vax program is being contemplated. This is all said, now, after Obama used public tax dollars to buy the nation’s entire swine flu vaccine supply. Big Pharma must love this. Mike Adams estimated they made $4 billion.

WHO do we trust?

On August 28th, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported:

“Evidence from multiple outbreak sites demonstrates that the H1N1 pandemic virus has rapidly established itself and is now the dominant influenza strain in most parts of the world.”

Yet, on July 16th, WHO told nations to stop counting H1N1 cases because labs can’t possibly test every single flu case. So how does WHO know that H1N1 is now “dominant … in most parts of the world”?

Maybe some journalist with access can send that question up the pipe.

Something’s up in Obamaland. Maybe his message today was directed at mainstream media which has been seriously hyping something that is no different in severity and morbidity from any other flu. Two weeks ago, Boston.com wrote:

“… the intensifying sense of urgency as health authorities, hospital administrators, and clinic executives across the nation confront the prospect of providing hundreds of millions of doses of vaccine against not one but two deadly types of flu in the same season.” [emphasis added]

Deadly? This is no more deadly than any other flu. Oh, yes, but it may mutate and become deadly! Well, then, all those vaccines Big Pharma made the public buy are useless.

So, the deed is done. Maybe this whole swine flu swindle was merely to let Big Pharma dump a bunch of useless product on the public, while swiping hundreds of millions of dollars from us. Hey, Wall Street got a “bailout” – why not Big Pharma? In a crashing economy, surely this flu (hoax or not) is not something we ought to infuse with scarce public funds.

By the way, HHS is offering ten video PSAs for the public to vote on.

I tweeted my impressions while I watched Fox News coverage of the Rose Garden speech. The only tweet picked up by Google search was my repeat of the Fox announcement, followed by my question:

“Obama is to disclose exactly where #H1N1 came from. You mean it wasn’t the military industrial #biowarfare labs?”

I’m kinda tickled it got posted under Military Tweets. Despite the source, I was immensely interested in what O might say, after reading volumes about the WHO flu.* Of course, he came nowhere near the why of it. That was just a false hook that Fox threw. So, to those who follow Geobear, my apologies for passing on Faux News without mentioning the source.

Sept. 2, 2009 UPDATE

From Citizens for Legitimate Government:

Defense Department to Start Mandatory H1N1 Flu Vaccinations 01 Sep 2009 All military personnel will be vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus, and the vaccine will be available to all military family members who want it, a Defense Department health affairs official said today. The H1N1 vaccination program will begin in early October, said Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Wayne Hachey, director of preventive medicine for Defense Department health affairs. The vaccine, which has been licensed [!] by the Food and Drug Administration, will be mandatory for uniformed personnel, the colonel said. “What we want to do is target those people who are at highest risk for transmission,” he said.

D.C. Area Officials Use Post-Sept. 11 Response to Coordinate Flu Fight 02 Sep 2009 Top officials from Maryland, Virginia and the District met Tuesday to coordinate plans for fighting the swine flu, taking advantage of a structure set up after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to try to sharpen the region’s response to outbreaks expected this fall. The governors of Maryland and Virginia joined D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on a day when President Obama said “every American has a role to play in responding to this virus.”

[Do you trust Obama in a (USAMRIID-created) flu pandemic? Obama has followed in Bush’s footsteps in nearly every single action — or inaction — he has taken since the election. Neurologists urged to watch for rare swine flu vaccine side-effect 01 Sep 2009 The last time the United States had a swine flu scare, mass vaccinations led to an even bigger worry that the injections might have caused a few dozen cases of a rare disease called Guillain-Barre syndrome. As the nation prepares for another round of 2009 H1N1 flu shots this fall, the federal government is urging neurologists to keep an eye out for new cases of Guillain-Barre. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Neurology have asked all neurologists to report new cases of Guillain-Barre in people who get vaccines this fall and winter to the Food & Drug Administration’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.
